According to statistics provided by Customs of Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone, from Jan. to Aug., there are 53,000 tons of phenol imported up by 26.2% compared with previous year with value of US $ 36 million , 220,000 tons of styrene up by 46% valued  US $ 184.63 million , 216,000 tons of Diethylene glycol up by 36.7% valued US $ 126.82 million valued ,  674,000 tons of methanol valued US $ 133.57 million up by 316% and 105% respectively, 52,000 tons of Dioctyl phthalate valued US $ 52.58 million up by 116% and 25.5% respectively, 186,000 tons of Xylene valued US $ 146.67 million up by 87.9% and 24.3% respectively and 260,000 tons of PTA up by 23.8% valued US $ 209.17 million.

Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone has advantages to boost  the import of chemicals. There are:

• Well equipped with chemicals logistic facilities
• Hedging function of the International Chemicals Exchange in FTZ
• Effects of state policies to stimulate domestic demand. FTZ is located in the hinterland between Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces where the demand for public infrastructure construction and invesment are very strong. It helps to boost the chemicals import.
• Low trading cost in FTZ
